We started Merchcast with one big idea: that managing merchandise should be and could be easier.
All of us at Merchcast come from a background of playing shows from a variety of spaces, from basements to arenas. I remember playing my first amphitheater and being so excited for the show, but also not having a single idea of what we should do for merch. There was no guide for newer bands and everything seemed to be learned by hard lessons.
Like most people who’ve played in bands, we’ve spent the late nights counting inventory out at the end of a long night. We’ve created those endless spreadsheets to try and figure out when we broke even on our merch. We’ve spent countless hours trying to decide what designs were our best sellers, and how to take that knowledge and apply it into our next merch order. We’ve seen firsthand how much time bands and print shops spend worrying about inventory instead of being able to focus on the tour itself.
This is why we built Merchcast. The platform was initially created out of a print shop, but after using it in its earliest form for a small number of bands, we knew we had to separate it to be able to help even more people and bands with their merch. Our goal has always been to create a platform that makes the merch process less complicated for bands, regardless of their level of experience or time on the road. From tracking inventory in real time to forecasting quantities for an upcoming run, we want to help artists, tour managers, merchandise sellers, and vendors spend more time doing what they do best.
This blog is also here to fulfill that goal. We’ll give you practical advice on tour management, inventory planning, forecasting, point of sale systems, and lessons we’ve learned from years in the merchandise industry. We’ll also share product updates, new features, and insights from the tours using Merchcast.
We’re excited to keep building Merchcast and share what we learn along the way. While we may have had to learn some lessons the hard way, we’re here to help you learn them in an easier way.
